Project Updates

Television Remote Project

This month, our mechanical team performed waterproof testing and made the remote more user-friendly by updating the button layout and adding descriptive labels. They have been working on developing a silicone gasket to enhance waterproofing.

Walking Aid Project

The mechanical team worked hard on the Walking Aid Project this month by continuing to improve the walker enclosure.

Handcycle Project

The mechanical team is nearly done with manufacturing all the components of the handcycle. The team has been milling and tapping custom plates and assembling the mounting and lifting systems. They are planning to work with the research and ethics team to begin verification and validation testing.

BMERIT Annual General Meeting (AGM) Recap

This month, BMERIT hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to showcase and celebrate the incredible work accomplished over this semester. Each project team – including Handcycle, Remote, and Hygienie – presented their progress, with members from the mechanical, electrical, and software teams sharing their individual contributions.

We also highlighted some major achievements from the year: winning the SU Innovation Award, the People’s Choice Award at the Hunter Hub Launchpad Pitch Competition, first place at the Western Engineering Competition in Saskatoon, and earning bronze for our BIOMOD project DNADetect, among others. We are incredibly proud of these milestones!

The Communications team also announced that new club merchandise is in the works, and are excited to share updates soon. Stay tuned!

Beyond the presentations, the AGM served as a wonderful opportunity for members to relax, enjoy some food, and connect with peers from across various teams. The welcoming environment made it easy for new members to get involved and feel part of the community. The afternoon was full of energy, excitement, and BMERIT pride. It was truly an enjoyable and informative afternoon that strengthened BMERIT’s growing sense of community – an amazing way to wrap up the semester.

SU Clubs Awards 2025

We're thrilled to share that BMERIT received the Innovation Award at this year's SU Club Awards! With over 300 student clubs on campus, this annual event recognizes groups that have made a meaningful impact at the University of Calgary. We're proud to be one of 15 clubs recognized across a wide range of categories.

This award reflects our team's commitment to pushing boundaries in biomedical engineering and bringing creative, research-driven ideas to life. From brainstorming to prototyping, everything we've achieved has been the result of a huge team effort. Thank you to the BMERIT community for making it all possible.

Thank you to the Students' Union for the recognition, and once again, to every member of BMERIT for helping shape the club into what it is. We can't wait to see where the future takes us.
